Visionary Meets with SBA Advisory Committee and Task Force

October 7, 2024

Visionary Consulting Partners (Visionary) recently had the honor of attending two U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) quarterly meetings – the Advisory Committee on Veterans Business Affairs (ACVBA) meeting and the Interagency Task Force on Veterans Small Business Development (IATF) meeting. As a proud committee member of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), Visionary is committed to its duty to attend the quarterly ACVBA meetings on a regular basis. Those in attendance (physically or virtually) had the opportunity to sit down with SBA Deputy Administrator, Dilawar Syed, and Assistant Administrator, Robert Yannuzzi, for an open discussion on several important topics that provide the SBA valuable insight into the Veteran business ownership experience. These recurring meetings facilitate an impactful level of collaboration for small businesses and the SBA leaders interested in enhancing services for the citizens and customers we serve.

According to the Deputy Administrator for the Office of Veterans Business Development, Timothy Green, who was also in attendance, the IATF meeting is held to “encourage business owners, committee members, and other advocates to collaborate on increased accessibility to resources and tools for America’s Veteran-owned small businesses.” As part of the initiative to better connect with small businesses and interpret the state of Veteran-owned entrepreneurship, Visionary’s Chief Operating Officer and co-founder, Mike Thornton, Sr., was invited as a guest presenter to deliver an informative inside look into Visionary’s business journey as a Service-disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) to the IATF and other business owners. This inclusive and collaborative discussion fosters a deeper understanding of the essential tools and effective strategies available to support Veteran small business owners.

While there to discuss Veteran entrepreneurship, Visionary also took the opportunity to have an informal chat with the SBA leaders on disaster loan support for businesses attacked by cybercrimes that can be disastrous to a business, and the value and importance of readily available SBA resources for small businesses. The goal is to encourage more thoughtful consideration of existing protections, while also exploring the expansion or development of new safeguards that small business owners can leverage as needed. To support this, a repository of protocols and best practices should be developed, encompassing areas such as Disaster Relief, Cybersecurity Dos and Don’ts, and other critical resources. As a Veteran, woman, and minority-owned small business, Visionary Consulting Partners is deeply appreciative of the SBA’s ongoing support and resources over the years. We remain committed to ensuring the SBA continues to receive invaluable insights and feedback from business owners and stakeholders alike.
