Community Leadership in Tech, AI, and Environmental Justice

Rapidly evolving technologies—including Artificial Intelligence—are continuing to shape the future of business, infrastructure, and public policy across nearly every sector. As organizations and communities adapt to these changes, thoughtful leadership, informed dialogue, and meaningful community engagement are becoming increasingly important.
With that in mind, Visionary Co-Founder & COO Michael Thornton, Sr. (seated far right), recently participated in the Community Leadership in Tech, AI and Environmental Justice training program presented by Shumate Technology.
“I made a very wise investment of time by attending this program led by two powerhouse coaches, Marvin Powell and Tamia Gordon,” said Mr. Thornton. “This experience opened my eyes to the important connections between data centers, AI, and the environment in ways I had not considered.”
Asked about the program’s mission, Coach Powell explained: “The first cohort of this pilot program will be empowered to help bridge gaps between communities, industry, and policymakers.”
Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Thornton emphasized the importance of education, communication, and responsible leadership as emerging technologies continue to evolve:
“This training reinforced the importance of having accurate information, along with the tools and strategies needed to effectively communicate, advocate for our communities, and thoughtfully address both the challenges and opportunities that accompany rapidly advancing technology and infrastructure.”
As AI and related technologies continue advancing, conversations like these will play an increasingly important role in helping communities, businesses, and policymakers better understand both the opportunities and responsibilities tied to technological growth. Experiences such as this reflect Visionary’s continued interest in understanding how innovation, infrastructure, and public policy intersect with the communities they impact, while encouraging thoughtful, informed engagement as these technologies continue to evolve.
