Visionary Consulting Partners, LLC (Visionary) is supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (OMHSP) in evaluating recent public service announcements (PSAs) focused on suicide prevention.

In July 2022, the United States Congress instituted the new nationwide 3-digit Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number – 988, replacing the previous 10-digit number, 1-877-273-8255. When calling 988, Veterans can press 1 to reach the Veterans Crisis Line (VCL) and speak with trained crisis responders available to help in times of crisis or need. 

Your organization’s support in these efforts is both vital and greatly appreciated. We are requesting your assistance with the dissemination of a paid media evaluation survey by:

✔ Providing your organization’s Communications Point of Contact (POC)

✔ Providing your organization’s senior level representative (for compliance)

✔ Collaborating on optimal outreach approaches to targeted Veteran populations

✔ Ensuring optimal distribution of survey and other outreach materials

We will be reaching out to you individually to explore and confirm your interest and share helpful next steps for conducting the survey.

The survey seeks input from Veterans and those transitioning from active duty (ages 18 and over) to:

1. Understand how Veterans receive and perceive the Dial 988 then Press 1 media campaign.
2. Assess the impact of VA’s VCL messaging campaign on audience awareness and engagement of VCL following the number change.
3. Ensure optimal outreach of the VCL both inside and out of the VA system, with particular attention to those hard-to-reach target audiences.

Participation in the survey is voluntary and participant information will remain anonymous.This survey will not ask for any sensitive information but will mention suicide, which may be distressing or triggering for some. If participants feel at risk in anyway, they can feel free to discontinue participation.

Should Veterans choose to participate in the survey, they may also be selected to participate in a focus group where they can provide additional insight.
